This one is for all you adrenalin junkies out there in Hive. If you fancy a day out in the Lake District I can't recommend this one enough.
The Honister slate mine Via Ferrata is a hoot. Situated on the B5289 about a 25-minute drive from Keswick it's basically a series of wall traverses, steel ladders, and scramble nets set on the side of the old slate workings. It's about three hours of fun and very exhilarating. They first kit you out with a climbing harness and twin tails so you can be hooked on to the safety line at all times. I'm guessing the paperwork would be horrendous if they didn't. and after a brief safety talk your off down the first ladder onto the wall.
Using the twin tails takes a little getting used to getting around obstacles as sometimes your hooking in every few meters.
Don't drop your phone it's a long way down.
Getting around some of the corners was a stretch for someone with little legs.
probably the worst and scariest bit the Burma Bridge isn't a tight wire and it swings as you walk across it's also a very long way up.
The last bit of the trip was a rope net climb this was really strenuous and much harder than the steel ladders as it would swing all over as you climb. Terry doesn't look happy I think the fear just got the better of me.
Some views were better than others.
The minimum age is 10 and the height limit is 1.3m a good standard of general fitness is a must. but you don't have to be an olympian.
OK any of you Hivers out there with a head for heights fancy a challenge.
