El macho tiene un penacho en forma de abanico de color más rojizo que el de la hembra el cual es naranja, como se puede apreciar yo pinte a la hembra, esta misma es muy rara vez levantada por completo. Esta ave usualmente se encuentra en parejas o solo, en niveles medios en el dosel (se refiere a la capa superior de sus hojas) donde agarra insectos al vuelo. Este anida en una masa desordenada de materia vegetal de casi un metro de largo que cuelga de la punta de una rama, frecuentemente al lado de un arroyo.
