Unfortunately you are right, Brazil is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for tourists because the thieves recognize them and know they have money to steal. You should try to look like a native as much as you can. But there are beaches like Jericoacoara, Porto de Galinhas, Florianópolis that are very touristic and relatively safe. My advice is to avoid the big cities and prefer small villages by the beach.
