Funny but true. When it comes to birthday gifts, it's about giving and receiving, but a lot of people (especially girls/ladies) are only interested in receiving. As you've observed, I have had people suddenly become chatty with me a few days to their birthdays.

Now, if any lady suddenly begins to chat with me, I'd ask her if her birthday is near. Of course, they find the question embarrassing, but it has helped ward off parasites numerous times.
