The largest representative of all tiger subspecies and the
Catidae in general. Amur tigers live in Russia - in the Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories, as well as in the north-east of China. The population of Amur tigers numbers about 500 individuals in a single habitat.
This subspecies is characterized by thick and long fur, especially in winter. The number of stripes on its body is smaller than in other subspecies. The Amur tiger is active in the evening, night, and morning. It is a good swimmer and often bathes in water bodies, and can tolerate low temperatures.
The main prey of the tiger are red and spotted deer, wild boars, roe deer, and musk deer.
The tiger is listed in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and is under international protection.
