與許多充滿冒險、熱血戰鬥或超能力的卡通不同，卡通《櫻桃小丸子》的故事大多發生在家庭、學校與日常生活之中，主角小丸子只是一名普通的小學女生，個性有點懶散，常做白日夢，不喜歡寫功課，遇到考試會緊張，看到好吃的東西會心動，偶爾會犯點小錯，就像你我一樣，就是一個平凡人，沒有超能力，也不想拯救世界，但是平凡的生活常常充滿著各種各樣的酸甜苦辣，正因如此，當我第一眼看到這卡通時，就不知不覺地看完了。
雖然我已經很久沒看到《櫻桃小丸子》的卡通了，畢竟我已經不是那個一回家就看卡通的電視兒童了，但是當聽到《櫻桃小丸子》的主題曲〈大家來跳舞〉（おどるポンポコリン）時，腦海中除了小丸子之外，慢慢地也浮現她的小夥伴們，如懶散的爸爸、為家裡操心的媽媽、永遠認真的丸尾和個性溫柔的小玉等角色，像是在回味自己曾經擁有過的童年一樣，進入特展是要門票的，不過商店區是可以免費入場的，於是我就在商品區瞎逛了。
不得不說，櫻桃小丸子的商品真的都太太太可愛了！從文具、杯子、馬克杯、帆布袋，到各式各樣的娃娃、吊飾與生活雜貨，幾乎每一樣商品都把小丸子那張圓滾滾的臉發揮到極致，可愛歸可愛，真的要我買回去使用，還是得從長計議，請想想看，假如我的電腦包上面印著一個超大的櫻桃小丸子臉孔，或者包包正中央印著一張巨大的小丸子臉，我大概真的會有點不敢背出門，所以最後我還是決定，欣賞就好，即使我沒有把櫻桃小丸子周邊帶回家，也不妨礙我享受逛店的樂趣，看著設計師把動畫角色融入日常用品，及觀察店內消費者們的互動，其實也是一種有趣的體驗，至於要不要購買？嗯……我還是先看看就好。
Unlike many cartoons that are packed with adventures, intense battles, or superpowers, Chibi Maruko-chan is mostly about family, school, and everyday life. Maruko, the main character, is just an ordinary elementary school girl. She’s a little lazy, loves daydreaming, doesn’t really like doing homework, gets nervous before exams, and can’t resist delicious food. Every now and then, she makes a few silly mistakes. In other words, she’s just like you and me—a totally ordinary person. She doesn’t have any superpowers, and she certainly isn’t trying to save the world. But ordinary life can be full of all kinds of ups and downs, with moments that are sweet, bitter, funny, and sometimes frustrating. Maybe that’s why, when I first came across this cartoon, I somehow ended up watching the whole thing without even realizing it.
It’s been a long time since I last watched Chibi Maruko-chan. After all, I’m no longer that kid who rushed home and turned on the TV to watch cartoons. But whenever I hear the theme song, “Odoru Pompokorin,” memories of Maruko and her friends slowly come back to me. I can picture her lazy but lovable dad, her mom who is always worrying about the family, the super-serious Maruo, and her sweet and gentle best friend Tama-chan. It almost feels like I’m taking a trip back to my childhood and remembering those days I once had. The special exhibition itself requires an admission ticket, but luckily, the merchandise area is free to enter. So, naturally, I decided to wander around and take a look.
I have to say, the Chibi Maruko-chan merchandise is way, way, way too cute! There are stationery items, cups, mugs, canvas bags, dolls, keychains, and all kinds of everyday goods. Almost every item features Maruko’s round little face in some cute and creative way. As adorable as everything is, though, I would still have to think twice before actually buying something and using it in public. Just imagine if my laptop bag had a huge Chibi Maruko-chan face printed on it, or a giant Maruko hanging from the front of my bag. I honestly don’t think I could bring myself to carry it outside. My reputation would be ruined! So in the end, I decided that I’d better just enjoy looking at the merchandise. Even though I didn’t take any Chibi Maruko-chan goodies home with me, that didn’t stop me from having fun browsing the store. Seeing how the designers turn cartoon characters into everyday products was actually pretty interesting. I also secretly watched how the customers interacted with the merchandise, and that was part of the fun too. Anyway, did I buy anything? Hmm… I think I’ll just look for now.
