Blood - Fiftywords Challenge

It wasn’t the scene that struck me—gruesome and gory as any fictionalized version of reality—nor was it the shock of death, dismemberment, the unlikely, unnatural shapes of bodies, limbs.

All this I could have imagined myself—could have forgotten, too.

But the smell. That, I could not forget.

Thank you, @miniature-tiger for organizing this challenge! I've really enjoyed reading all of these stories and writing my own :)
