In our adventures walking through different parts of the city of Lima, we came across a kind of recreational park that we had heard about but had not had the opportunity to visit. Between Avenida de la Peruanidad and Avenida General Salaverry, is the Campo de Marte, that was our destination so we set out to explore it and photographically record the most interesting sectors.
When we get off the bus, the first thing we find is the Jorge Chavez Oval, this is not part of the Field of Mars, but it offers an interesting view as a prelude. In this oval, there is a very high pyramid made in honor of the Peruvian hero Jorge Chavez, it has several sculptures of what appear to be angels and are located in coordinated positions to give the impression that surround the pyramid, but one higher than the other.
I think the view of this oval is quite impressive, it has a majestic or glorious air that is produced by the strategic positioning of the angels. It is difficult to access directly or approach it because of the high traffic, plus it has practically no space for passersby, so there was no choice but to take the photos from the traffic light and apply some zoom.
En nuestras aventuras paseando por diferentes lugares de la ciudad de Lima, nos topamos con una especia de parque recreativo del cual habíamos escuchado hablar pero que no habíamos tenido la oportunidad de visitar. Entre la Avenida de la Peruanidad y la Avenida General Salaverry, se encuentra el Campo de Marte, ese fue nuestro destino así que nos dispusimos a explorarlo y a registrar fotográficamente los sectores más interesantes.
Al bajar del bus, lo primero que nos encontramos es el Ovalo Jorge Chávez, éste no forma parte del Campo de Marte, pero ofrece una interesante vista como antesala. En dicho ovalo, hay una pirámide muy alta hecha en honor al prócer peruano Jorge Chávez, ésta posee varias esculturas de lo que parecen ser ángeles y están ubicados en posiciones coordinadas para dar la impresión de que rodean la pirámide, pero uno más alto que el otro.
Creo que la vista de este ovalo es bastante impresionante, tiene unos aires majestuosos o gloriosos que son producidos por el posicionamiento estratégico de los ángeles. Es difícil acceder directamente o acercarse por el alto tráfico, además de que prácticamente no tiene espacio para transeúntes, así que no quedó más opción que tomar las fotos desde el semáforo y aplicar algo de zoom.
Next to the Ovalo, we can find the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense of Peru, it has a very particular construction because it is not completely rectangular or square like most government buildings built in recent times, but has a first stage of about two floors quite wide and in the center of this stage we find the main building that at first glance looks rectangular, but if we pay attention we can see that on some floors the structure protrudes, giving a very particular appearance.
One of the things that is quite striking is the aircraft that is exalted with a large column, you can see on the plaque at the base of the column that it is a supersonic fighter-bomber SU-22 (Sukhoi), an aircraft that was in the service of the nation for about 30 years. This type of tributes are very common in government buildings related to the military, surely in your country it is the same.
Al costado del Ovalo, podemos encontrar la sede del Ministerio de Defensa del Perú, cuenta con una construcción bastante particular ya que no es totalmente rectangular o cuadrada como la mayoría de edificios gubernamentales construidos en épocas recientes, sino que tiene una primera etapa de unos dos pisos bastante amplia y en el centro de ésta etapa encontramos el edificio principal que a primera vista luce rectangular, pero si ponemos atención podemos observar que en algunos pisos la estructura sobresale, dando una apariencia bastante particular.
Una de las cosas que bastante llama la atención, es el avión que se encuentra exaltado con una gran columna, se puede observar en la placa que se encuentra en la base de la columna que se trata de un cazabombardero supersónico SU-22 (Sukhoi), avión que estuvo al servicio de la nación durante unos 30 años. Este tipo de homenajes son muy comunes en edificios gubernamentales relacionados con la milicia, de seguro en tu país sucede igual.
Towards another side of the oval and very close to the entrance of the Field of Mars, we can observe a monument that at the time seems to have functioned as a fountain or at least gives the impression that water was a fundamental element. It is made of stone and has some steps that lead to the figure of a man of which curiously there is no information, I looked for a plaque or descriptive element, but I did not find it, the truth is that it looked somewhat abandoned.
Hacia otro costado del ovalo y muy cerca de la entrada del Campo de Marte, podemos observar un monumento que en su momento parece que funcionaba como una fuente o por lo menos da la impresión de que el agua era un elemento fundamental. Es de piedra y cuenta con unos escalones que llevan hacia la figura de un hombre del cual curiosamente no hay información, busqué alguna placa o elemento descriptivo, pero no lo encontré, la verdad lucía algo abandonado.
Perhaps the main attraction of the Campo de Marte is the Monument to the defenders of the border, this is a structure or sculpture made in commemoration of the heroes of the Peruvian-Ecuadorian War of 1941. It was inaugurated in 1966 and is at least 25 meters high and has several human figures that are mostly military, but we can also see some that appear to be indigenous and animals.
It is impressive the general view of this great structure from a distance, you can see that the intention was to give it majesty and they succeeded. This type of work is very appreciated by the inhabitants who observe it with great pride and reminds them of the glorious past of these important battles; however, it is notable that the government should invest much more in the maintenance of these monuments.
Quizá el atractivo principal del Campo de Marte es el Monumento a los defensores de la frontera, ésta es una estructura o escultura realizada en conmemoración a los héroes de Guerra peruano-ecuatoriana de 1941. Fue inaugurada en 1966 y cuenta con al menos 25 metros de alto y con varias figuras humanas que en su mayoría son militares, pero también podemos observar algunas que parecen ser indígenas y animales.
Es impresionante la vista que general esta gran estructura a la distancia, se nota que la intención fue darle majestuosidad y vaya que lo lograron. Este tipo de obras son muy apreciadas por los habitantes quienes la observan con mucho orgullo y les hace recordar el pasado glorioso de esas importantes batallas; sin embargo, es notable que el gobierno debe invertir muchos más en el mantenimiento de estos monumentos.
The Campo de Marte as a recreational space, has green areas that allow visitors to relax and enjoy the fresh air. There is landscaping work in different areas and many trees that at times give the impression that you are outside the hectic city. There is also a kind of bridge with a very interesting design which serves as a focus for visitors to come and take pictures or simply enjoy the view.
El Campo de Marte como espacio recreacional, cuenta con áreas verdes que permiten que los visitantes se relajen y disfruten del aire fresco. Se observa un trabajo de jardinería en diferentes áreas y muchos árboles que por momentos dan la impresión de que estas fuera de la agitada ciudad. También hay una especie de puente con un diseño bastante interesante el cual funciona como foco para que los visitantes se acerquen a tomarse fotos o sencillamente a disfrutar de la vista.
Visiting this place was exhausting, it is quite large and touring it all is not an easy task, but we also dedicated ourselves to rest and admire the beauties and details found in the surroundings. Breathing fresh air in a city as hectic as Lima can be complicated, so it was certainly an experience in which we gained a lot for our physical and mental health.
Visitar este lugar fue agotador, es bastante amplio y recorrerlo todo no es una tarea fácil, pero también nos dedicamos a descansar y a admirar las bellezas y detalles que se encuentran por los alrededores. Respirar aire fresco en una ciudad tan agitada como Lima puede ser complicado, así que sin duda fue experiencia en la que ganamos mucho para nuestra salud física y mental.
