Catalinas Subway Station [ENG/ESP]

It has been a long time since I had spent a few minutes photographing a particular underground station, I have always liked to do it because I get attractive angles and these places are good for composing with geometry, symmetry, lines and much more.

This was something spontaneous and without any planning so I didn't have my camera with me but my phone. While I was travelling I was thinking that when I started in photography I used to take pictures in the stations and trains and that I should take it again, I got off at Catalinas station of the E line and I stayed there for several minutes taking these pictures that I now share with you.

Hace bastante tiempo que no dedicaba unos minutos a fotografiar alguna estación del subterráneo en especial, siempre me ha gustado hacerlo porque consigo ángulos atractivos y estos lugares son buenos para componer con geometría, simetría, líneas y mucho más.

Esto fué algo espontáneo y sin planificación alguna por lo que no llevaba mi cámara conmigo pero si mi teléfono. Mientras viajaba estaba pensando en que cuando me inicié en la fotografía solía hacer fotos en las estaciones y a los trenes y que debería retomarlo, bajé en la estación Catalinas de la línea E y me quedé varios minutos allí tomando éstas fotos que ahora les comparto.

It's possible that for some people a station is just that... a station but I imagine many things and I always see it from a cinematographic style (like almost everything 🤣), that's why I have given it these tones in the edition, a little darker in terms of tones and lighting something like a Moody style, I think it makes it look more interesting.

I know that in many occasions it is not strictly necessary to have a professional camera at hand to get good shots, that's why I have no problem taking pictures with my phone as other aspects are also important.

This next picture I like very much for example, I could interpret or visualize some symmetry in this staircase, you can see lines on both sides and the long purple sign with the name of the station, also that lady sitting there adds a singular touch.

Es posible que para algunas personas una estación sea solo eso... una estación pero yo le imagino muchas cosas y siempre lo veo desde un estilo cinematográfico (como casi todo 🤣), es por eso que le he dado estos tonos en la edición, un poco más oscuros en cuanto a tonos e iluminación algo como un estilo Moody, creo que lo hace ver más interesante.

Sé que en muchas ocasiones no es estrictamente necesario tener a la mano una cámara profesional para conseguir buenas tomas, por esto no tengo problemas en tomar fotos con mi teléfono ya que otros aspectos son también importantes.

Ésta siguiente foto me gusta muchísimo por ejemplo, podría interpretar o visualizar algo de simetría en esta escalera, se puede ver líneas de ambos lados y el largo cartel violeta con el nombre de la estación, además esa señora sentada allí le agrega un toque singular.

Another thing I like to do here is to try with low angles, placing the camera or the phone at ground level, this way I get another perspective of the place but on second thought it would have looked better if the train was parked there at that moment, maybe I should have waited a bit longer.

Otra de las cosas que me gusta hacer acá es probar con ángulos bajos, colocando la cámara o el teléfono al ras del piso, de esta forma consigo otra perspectiva del lugar pero pensándolo bien hubiese quedado mejor si el tren estuviese estacionado allí en ese momento, quizás debí esperar un poco más.

Another aspect, style, genre or I don't know how to call it, that has generated enthusiasm and interest in me is photographing "details", these details are things that at first glance don't seem important enough to dedicate a photo to but if we try they could give good results, I'm not referring to these photos in specific haha but generally speaking yes.

A padlock? Yes, a padlock... I don't know what would be special about this photo but if it is I hope the observer tells me 😅

Otro aspecto, estilo, género o no se cómo llamarlo, que me ha generado entusiasmo e interés es fotografiar "detalles", estos detalles duelen ser cosas que a simple vista no nos parecen importantes como para dedicarle una foto pero si intentamos podrían dar buenos resultados, no me refiero a estás fotos en específico jaja pero hablando de forma general sí.

¿Un candado? Si, un candado... No sé que sería lo especial de esta foto pero sí lo es espero que el observador me lo diga 😅

Caution! Another picture of anything 🤣 and why not? This was there because some employees were doing maintenance and cleaning of the station, so it had to be signposted as a precaution, so as it is part of the station at that moment you have to take a picture of it.

¡Atención! Otra foto de cualquier cosa 🤣 y ¿Por qué no? Esto estaba allí porque algunos empleados estaban haciendo mantenimiento y limpieza de la estación, así que obligatoriamente había que señalizar por precaución, así que como forma parte de la estación en ese momento hay que tomarle una foto.

Here is one of the walls with two signs, one that indicates which station you are in and the sign on the other side that indicates which are all the stations of that line and which station you are in.

I have decided to take some photos of this series like this one for example using the phone in portrait mode, this way it is possible to get images with out of focus backgrounds as if it was a fixed focal lens, a 35mm, 50mm or 85mm only that the distance of these phones is much smaller, I think 18mm, if I'm wrong you can correct me.

This is just a piece of information for anyone who might be interested 😃

Acá uno de los muros con dos carteles, uno que indica en que estación estás y el cartel del otro lado que indica cuáles son todas las estaciones de esa línea y que estación te ubicas.

He decidido tomar algunas fotos de esta serie como esta por ejemplo usando el teléfono en modo retrato, de esta forma es posible conseguir imágenes con fondos desenfocados cómo si se tratase de un lente de focal fija, un 35mm, 50mm o 85mm solo que la distancia de estos teléfonos es mucho menor, creo que de 18mm, si me equivoco pueden corregirme.

Éste es solo un dato para quien le pueda interesar 😃

This is a tiny way of getting to know the Buenos Aires underground and part of its facilities and stations.

Éste es un mapa general y completo del subterráneo de Buenos Aires, conformado por 6 líneas distribuidas en línea A (azul claro), línea B (rojo), línea C (azul oscuro), línea D (verde), línea E (violeta) y línea H (amarillo). Todas estas líneas conectan a toda o casi toda la ciudad autónoma de Buenos Aires.

Ésta es una minúscula forma de conocer el subterráneo de Buenos Aires y parte de sus instalaciones y estaciones.

This is what Catalinas station on the E line looks like, it is located in the Retiro neighbourhood and is one of the stations that opened in recent years on this line.
