In my understanding of this video, I see religion as something that involves worship of a deity. It can also be seen as rendering acts of service to a superior being. It is a term used in the Bible. In the concept of religion, a deity seeks to be worshipped. Every religion consists of worship being made.
There are many religions out there. Across every continent or even country, we come across various religions in existence. But our concern in this teaching is about the true religion. We are taught in the Bible about the true religion, one in which we offer genuine service to God.
James 1:26
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain
The message this verse sends across to us is that there are actually vain religions—religions that are false. These religions can be realized by the manner in which the members lack control of their tongues when they speak.
How do we then identify a true religion? In all sincerity, the Bible is the only means by which we can discover the true religion. Just as a vain religion has its characteristics, so does a true religion have its own likewise.
A true religion consists of certain behavioral qualities for better identification. Apostle Paul made this known to the people of the church in the book 1 Timothy 3:15. This is what Paul says:
1Tim.3.15 - But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Religion, which was earlier explained as rendering worship to God, demands that we offer this worship in the right manner. In the book of John 4:23–24, we are told that the best way to worship God is in Spirit and Truth.
Our worship is not complete if it lacks complete expression from the Spirit. The spirit acquires what it takes to offer acceptable worship to God. It is only with the help of the spirit that we can worship God effectively. And it has to be from our hearts. That's what that scripture meant by "truth.".
Any other worship outside this manner is considered false. People have taken religion and abused it. They now recognize religion for what it is not. God is highly against this practice; we see this in the book of Romans 1:25.
We ought to try our best to be people of the true religion, as this is the class of people that are in the program of God. May God bless us through this teaching, amen.
