At the Palace park , on top of a twelve meter high granite pedestal stands the sculpture ''Abel''.

The sculpture known as ''The Abel Monument'' was constructed by Gustav Vigeland and unveiled in 1908.There has been a lot of discussion as to where the monument should be placed.It was finally decided to be installed at the southeast corner of the Palace park (Slottsparken) in an area thereafter called The Abel Garden (Abelhaugen).

The Abel monument was created in honor of Niels Henrik Abel, a Norwegian mathematician with contributions in various fields. There is also a mathematicians prize given by the Norwegian government called The Abel Prize.
Definitely a very interesting persona in the field of mathematics.
