Can you recall a moment in your life when you were truly innocent and happy? What would you give to return to this time and spend your eternity there?
This is a great song that just says so much about this topic, the song is 'Return to Innocence' by Enigma.
Our world can sometimes seem so dark and empty. All you have to do is turn on the TV or go to a news site and there are constant tragedies, murders, suicides, death, and destruction going on all over the world. Even in our own lives, we can go through very tough periods were we wish we were somewhere else.
Some say that we experience both our heaven and our hell in our lifetime. I don't believe that, but I do believe that sometimes things can feel like hell. And then other times feel like heaven. As a child, I recall some wonderful moments, times and periods in my life where there were no cares, no responsibilities, just peace, joy, and happiness. Spending the day out in the sun, running through the woods, imagining great adventures, day dreaming, fishing, and hanging out by the river that was near my home.. and then off in the distance hearing the voice of my mother calling me in for dinner, her voice echoing between the hills and I running full on down the side of the mountain back home. Those were the days.
I like to think that heaven will be like this. Perhaps not in the same period of life.. but just peace, joy, and no worries.
Last night I was watching 'The Green Mile', I haven't seen that movie in a long time, too long in fact. In one of the iconic scenes, Arlen Bitterbuck is about to be executed for his crimes. He asks Paul Edgecomb (played by Tom Hanks) the following question:
"Do you believe that if a man repents enough for what he done wrong, than he'll get to go back to the time that was happiest for him and live there forever? Could that be what heaven's like? "
Paul Answers: "I just about believe that very thing"
Arlen: "I had a young wife when I was eighteen. We spent the summer in the mountains, made love every night. After we would talk sometimes till the sun came up, and she'd lay there, bare breasted in the fire light... that was my best time. " - source: http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0002955/quotes
