The perfect place for ducks - Kristiansand, Norway

Last weekend I went for a walk even though it's a bit on the hottest side. It's summer, but the temperature is approaching 30 degrees Celsius. That's far higher than we're used to. If we're going to go for a walk, work in the garden or do other physically demanding activities, it has to be early in the morning or late enough in the evening. But I got out for a little walk. I'm lucky enough to live close to the forest and the sea. It's cooler in both places.

One of the places I often walk is along a stream called Vollebekken, located in the outskirts of Kristiansand. It runs pretty much parallel to a busy road. I therefore usually choose to walk on the path along the stream, instead of along the road. There are always lots of ducks here. It's shady because of the many tall trees. I therefore think it's a super good place for ducks too. Also notice the tall grass and reeds that grow here. It's the perfect place for ducks to hide their newly hatched chicks. I didn't see any chicks on this walk, but they can be hard to see because they hide.

At the place where I made a stop to take photos, there are benches to sit on. So it is a place where you are supposed to be able to stop, sit down and take a break. I put my bag down and walked all the way down to the water. Several of the ducks came almost right up to me. Except for these two who stayed in the same place.

I didn't count the ducks swimming past me, but I think I saw at least 15/16 individuals. As soon as they realized I had no food, they swam on. There is actually a sign saying that you must not feed the birds. There are residential areas on both sides of the stream, but it is a really nice, quiet area, where I almost feel like I am far outside the city. In fact, it is no more than three kilometers from the city center. But nice to see that it is still an attractive stream for ducks.
