Lyoto Machida Reflects On His 18 Month Suspension
Machida's suspension happened under strange circumstances. Apparently he had been taking this supplement that he later realized contained a banned substance. Machida goes ahead and tells USADA about it, maybe hoping to reduce his suspension, but gets a whole 18 months.
A lot of people are saying Lyoto is innocent, and he really didn't know about the banned substance. It's important to realize that he only brought this substance to USADA's attention after he had a sample of his being tested. I'm not pointing any finger, just saying it's not as clear cut as you may think.
Anyway that's an old story, the point his his suspension is ending and he's got a chance to take a break from the sport. The experience was very positive for him he says. He's trained in many new gyms, hes improved and hones his skills, and he's spent more time with his family and just general relaxation. I hope he's right because this guy was so fun to watch back when he was karate kicking the life out of his opponent. If he's even better than his awkward karate style back then I'd love to see him back in the octagon. I just hope his return is longer than Jon Jones.
