In many countries women no longer feel the need to get married. Some people believe that this is because women are able to earn their own income and therefore do not require the financial security that marriage can bring.
To what extent do you agree?
Nowadays, women are demonstrating their ability to perform just as well as men on the global professional stage. It is therefore no surprise that they increasingly show their tendency for being independent. Some people believe that being financially independent is the reason for the decreasing number of women getting married. However, I partially agree with them as I believe there are other significant reasons as well. This essay will analyze the other causes of this trend.
Firstly, gender equality is thought to be the precursor for women to chase other goals apart from marriage , such as academic and career pursuits. That equality has made some significant alterations to traditional image of women in society. Women, since the last century, are no longer seen as only housewives, but they are looked at as one of the main contributers to the development of their countries. It is for these reasons they are accomplishing more in their professional lives. This can be clearly shown by the rising number of women of power who work in sensitive positions in government, such as the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the British Prime Minister Teresa May.
Furthermore, although women have a biological tendency for motherhood, this desire can be fulfilled by ways other than getting married, such as being a single mother. In other words, today women do not need a husband to be mothers. A trend that is gaining more social acceptance every day. For instance, a recent study by Stanford University has revealed that the number of single women adopting children are threefold of that last year. This study shows that women have come to understand that the only valid reason to get married is falling in love, not because they are obliged for any other reasons such as obtaining financial support.
After looking at the above, women are becoming more capable of being independent in all aspects of their lives. It is hoped that women will continue to achieve more in their academic and professional lives.
