Hi guys!

Today I will redesign the piston and start with a prototype for the legs. So here are updates on Project Devil Gundam!

Bigger rods smaller piston

The new piston will be using bigger rods since this is going to be single rod for each piston.

And since the gunpla runer I'm using is bigger I will need piston with a bigger hole.

I start with marking the pla plate using scribing pen and some circle templates. Using this markings I know when to stop when cleaning up later.

Trimming the pla plates

I trimmed the pla plate from the strip I've prepared. Now I will need several copies of this design.

Notice I haven't cleaned the edges yet? From my previous experience with making this piston I thought of a new method.

More copies

While I make more copies of this piston using pla plates. I only trim as close to the markings as I can without actually touching it.

The idea is to prepare the pla plates first then cement it in place later. The rod will act as a means to align the pla plates.

Even more copies

After the pla plates are ready and align with each other (in terms of the holes). I can cement them together turning them into a piston in one go.

Then after the cement has cured properly overnight, I can clean them to make sure the surface is smooth.

Using this method I can be sure of 2 things:
  • The holes are align with each other since they are pla plates cemented on top of each other. Which means the piston won't have any friction problem whatsoever later on.
  • The actually piston will have a smooth surface because I will clean up an actual finish piston and not one layer at a time. Like the previous method I used.
So this is my updates for today on this Devil Gundam x Neue Ziel Project.

Keep on building! Keep on steeming! Have a nice day!

Quick access tutorial:

  1. Fixing broken peg using gunpla runer and several tools.
  2. Fixing holes using cement and plastic scraps.
