In this post, we are going to take a look at How to Install Windows Subsystem for Linux 2. Microsoft released this for their Windows OS ever since the Windows 7 came out. And since then they managed to allow many small Linux distros on their Store too.
Now as we are going to install the WSL 2, it'd also install the Ubuntu Linux after the same. You get to use the Ubuntu easily from the command prompt. In near future for Windows 11, you'd be able to run the graphics programs using the WSL too.
Currently this is second version of the WSL. Which makes a lot of improvement since the last version of the WSL in the store. It's free and it allows you to use the WSL from the Powershell and the Command Line programs easily.
There are many good reasons to install WSL on Windows. So here are couple of reasons that you should check out below.
I have created one step by step instructional video on how you can install WSL in your Linux distro. And how this can be a good option for you when it comes to installing drivers and the programs too. So do give this video a watch and see if you can set up the WSL 2 on your own.
Here are some of the commands that you can check out with the WSL. There are many others that you can explore from the official Microsoft website too.
Here's more commands of WSL listed in page here.
Say if you have older version of the Linux making use of the WSL 1 you can update to the 2nd version too. You can check out the code below.
wsl.exe --set-version Ubuntu 2
I hope this helps you understanding the usage of the WSL as it allows you to explore Linux and other Linux fork distros. It's pretty fun to make use of the WSL. It'd be interesting to try out the commands and also get the Linux working while using the Windows. I'd recommend you try this out.
I have added some of the tech and programming related content in the past. I also covered the game development in my content. I am going to cover more tech install and other specific content in upcoming educational content here. I hope that you would find interesting and may give me feedback on that note.
