I am using WordPress ever since it was invented. I used to make small sites and the demos. And then test things out. My problem? I never documented this. And now I am writing about the same on hive every now and then. That too in a fragmented way.
So that goes to show you that being a contributor with the WordPress does pay off. You have to make sure to approach the contribution in a process. Because this way you would have your efforts being paid off with the accessible way for the recruiters.
Why would you want to become the contributor? You would want to be one. Because there is a program out there where people who are making business out of the WordPress are being asked to contribute. For example Godaddy is one such company asking the idle programmers of the company to spend time making open source beautiful.
Another thing is that when it comes to the recruitment you would find the people who are investing into the wordpress needs to be shown their potential. That would be making them get some good job too. Like say you would want them to earn some job in specific companies.
In short there would be enough for the benefit and also this would be improving the WordPress long term too. Like making things cleaner and better. And you would be learning how to work with teams in a open source fashion like that. I would say that such type of contributions are good for the overall open source too.
I have been thinking about making small changes and also doing something for the Linux. Because I want my name to stay out there. And if things work out the right way we can think of the benefit it would have for us in the work that we do for others. So in that sense I hope I get to learn something in due process.
Lot of interesting things to be learned in this process. I suppose if I could learn from my experience and pass it on the web. That would hopefully build things for me and also earn me enough income if not some passive donations too.
