Debian has been always my choice of the distro. And I still use it as far as the server part is concerned. Most of my small setups of the VPS on the cloud make use of the debian and I have no issues from it. Once I setup I rarely look at it from years later. And so we have to get back to topic.
Now I am using Ubuntu for the friends and the workplace. Why? There are many reasons for the same. I can name you few. But some of them based on the experience.And things that I have noticed over the years. You may not like my approach, and even so let's talk about it.
I used to make use of the Suse in past for some of the client work. And the thing is that client had a lot of issues solving some problems. We all know that linux users are grumpy lot and getting the help for the same would be harder for them too.
In near future when I want to get the help for a lot of tools and the changes that we can make to the system you may have to check the forums and the personalized help in some cases. And arch, suse and RED hat has their own set of the issues.
I found that the Ubuntu world is easier on newbies and the clients who needed help. And for some reason we have to think of such users and those who are planning to change to the new OS. I can tell you from my experience that there are times that we have to consider in our approach to move towards friendly community.
Almost every cloud that we have out there is supporting the ubuntu and the few OS there. Like even the centOS, Alma and others are also there. Like rockylinux. Most of such are good for the clients and also ubuntu and debian are something comes everywhere. Which is what i want.
I give ubuntu to the clients and use the debian myself. So that if there are issues come out then the ubuntu one we have plenty of places to find help if they use anything related to ubuntu only. Then I feel in that case this is adjustable and also people would not have issues with as well.
In short, Ubuntu is good and worth giving to the clients and the server admins who are kind of prefer the less headache for themselves. I know a lot of people who like fedora, arch and others, but I feel good around Debian and sub distros of the same.
