After seeing a few posts (which inspired me to make this post) and hearing about it a bit over the past few days, I decided to try out Steepshot. Steepshot is essentially a version of Instagram that runs on Steemit. A monetized version of Instagram especially attracts me! When I saw the idea of the app I was especially excited considering I mainly post photos and that is one of my biggest hobbies.

This app is currently in alpha and I want to make this post to provide constructive feedback. Please understand that the app isn't even released yet.

I love the layout of the app and think that it is the strongest aspect of the app. Every aspect of the app looks great to me, and I especially love the layout of the profile and feed pages.

One of the profile layouts (images only).

Second of the profile layouts. This one shows both the full post rather than just images.

After figuring out the login system (I was quite confused with the hidden passwords for a while...), I was greeted by a rather pleasant looking and well laid out feed. This feed can be sorted into three catagories, New photos, Hot, and Trending. This is what I would like to address first in this post.

Feed

While I love the layout of the feed and think it looks very tidy and neat, I think that the feed is very limited. There is no option to see the 'feed' you see on the Steemit website, the feed of the people I have followed. To me this is the most important aspect of an app like this. I want to be able to see content from creators I have followed, unfortunately at the moment this isn't possible (to my knowledge). Also, at times the images make no sense. This is due to the fact that the app uses the same posts that are on the Steemit site (most of which are massive text blocks which don't transfer very well to an app which is aimed at images). If the app could maybe filter to just photography posts I think this would be great, as that would provide relevant content for Steepshot users.

Also, I don't believe it is possible to open an article. Tapping on the username goes to the profile, tapping on the image enlarges the image, but I don't believe there is an actual way to get to an article, instead only the image, author, title and comments can be viewed.

Steemit vs Steepshot.

Another interesting aspect I found was how the posts on both Steemit and Steepshot are the same. However, posts don't seem to transition very well. As I described above, posts from the Steemit site can't be accessed and only the title and image can be viewed. On the other hand, an image posted from Steepshot can only posted with a title and no text. While this is fine, I think that Steemit and Steepshot don't interact very well, as Steemit posts are clearly meant for Steemit, while Steepshot posts are clearly meant for Steepshot. However, both types of posts show up on both platforms (just not very well).

Tags

Tags seem very confusing to me.. I can't seem to create my own tags but instead have to pick from about 30 tags provided. If I try to create my own tags, the button becomes dim and I can't submit a post. Whether this is a bug, or something else I am unsure of.

Conclusion

These were the biggest downsides I noticed while using the app (which is currently in Alpha, so all of these are fully understandable). In its current state, I think it is a good app to view picture and photography posts from, however, it isn't great to post from. All in all though, I am very happy with it currently, and I hope some of these problems can be addressed in the future.

For alpha this app seems very well made! Great job to the developers for making such a great application even though it is in early stages still. I hope it keeps getting better and more users start to pick it up!
