The Bahamas Will Launch a Digital Currency Pilot Tomorrow - CoinDesk
Bahamas has just launched a digital FIAT currency called sand dollar. Later they intend to follow up with their own Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) which will also be called sand dollar.
What caught my attention is the restriction they have placed on transactions involving the digital fiat currency. Business are not allowed to hold more than $1 million in their wallet. There is a monthly wallet transaction limit of one-eighth of their annual business turnover. Individual have a limit of $500, with higher limits promised after enhanced due diligence. I am inclined to believe that when CBDCs are issued by other countries, most, if not all, of them, will come up with restrictions similar to this.
Governments are addicted to control and they can never give it up easily unless forced to.
