For those who do not know, an introductory post is the post in which a new steemian introduces himself or herself to the steemit community. Usually, it is supposed to be the first post from all new steemians. Sometimes, some steemians write it much later due to lack of awareness.

Content of the introductory post
The introductory post is extremely important. It is this post that gives other steemians the privilege of getting to know the "newbie". For this reason, it should be a detailed description of the new steemian. It should include at least the steemian's name, personality and expectations. It should include a description of what value you intend to add to the community because that's what the platform is all about. Other items that can also be added to the introductory post include the following.

1. Hobbies
2. Nationality
3. Favorites
4. Skills
5. Occupation
6. Travel experiences
   There's a lot we think people should know about us, the introductory post is the best avenue to tell them.

Importance of the introductory post
The following are some of the reasons why a proper introductory post is essential for new steemians

1. A new steemian has no follower. The introduceyourself tag is quite popular and it is the best way to get steemians to follow you as a "newbie".
2. There are certain curators who are very much interested in introduceyourself posts. This usually gives the "newbie" an avenue to rapidly build rep and gain some amount of steem power.
3. It gives members of the community an idea of who you are and how they should relate with you.
4. It gives members of the community an idea of your area of expertise. This attracts others who would like to relate with people of like minds.

Writing a good introductory post
To get the best results, the following guidelines should be adhered to when writing an introductory post.

1. Express yourself clearly. If possible in English.
2. Tell us about yourself in simple terms. Everything you think other steemians should know.
3. Put nice pictures of yourself. If possible, upload a picture of yourself at work or having fun.
4. Your description of yourself has to be real so others can relate. No need to lie about who you are.
5. Tell us who introduced you to steemit. It would be advisable to use the person's steemit username for identity.
6. Tell us why you're here on this platform. What have you brought and what do you plan to gain.

Tags for your introductory post
The first tag for an introductory post is usually introduceyourself. Since you can use up to five tags, you can also use introducemyself. Then, if you were introduced to steemit as part of a community project or outreach, use the community tag. You can also use the esteem tag is you are using the eSteem application and busy if you're using busy.org.

Interaction is key
When you finally make your introductory post, try as much as possible to interact with the people who leave comments on your post. Reply them as politely as possible. They are your new friends, treat them as such.
