What a damn good question.
I am quite fond of the “new wild styles” of beer, which offer a much wider and more varied taste experience.
Some people have gone too far with the typical taste, either by being too extreme or by being too mild. For example, some beers are way to too hoppy, while others are too malty or even too fruity.
Beneath all this, I really enjoy a good Belgium Trappist style beer.
I have a similar problem drinking typical German pils style - which I just don’t like anymore.
RE: Can Belgian trappist beers compare to modern craft beers? Which one do you prefer?
