I found this image on the internet. Wow!

When I was young I was fortunate to have parents who were able to build a Fort treehouse for my brother and I. It was a simple structure with a spiral slide that descended from the top level.

The ladder that took you from the bottom to the top, had monkey bars across to a third ladder. There was also a rope to climb, and I would take it up the rope ladder and swing like a maniac from the top down and around, landing in my mothers garden.

A treehouse is a place for the imagination to soar when boredom passes, where friends can play pretend and excercise stimulates the process.

One time though I fell off that rope ladder. I got up and somewhat disoriented I felt a numbness at the back of my head where I had hit my head on the wooden block at the base of the rope ladder.

I touched my hair and felt wetness. Once I saw the blood on my fingers the realization of pain hit me and I ran into the house. I had to get quite a few stitches in the back of my head.

Life is dangerous and I am much more cautious now because of a few incidents over the years. My experiences also help me to assist my friends and loved ones when they have accidents.

There are many safe playground designs today that don't seem as fun as the designs of my youth. Dangerous rides have been removed from most parks and it is important to improve designs for safety.
