The Osprey

Sheldon Masters is part of an underground task force that keeps watch over Earth. The task force belongs to an intergalactic organization known as The Nest. Task forces like the one on Earth are put in place on planets across the universe by The Nest. The members of each Nest are trained to deal with internal threats on their planets, in part to gain public trust, but their primary concern is external threats. For the most part, the interplanetary community ignores planets that have yet to master space travel. They look at those planets the way we would look at a bunch of mosquitos. Not much use in trying to take them over or steal from them. But once a planet has developed the ability to reach space, the rest of the universe considers those planets developed enough to be worth taking an interest in. So with space travel comes a whole new set of external threats to a planet.

The Nest tries to assist in helping these planets defend themselves. They watch planets closely as they progress and try to put a local branch in place just before the planet's population has their space travel breakthrough. Sheldon Masters is a part of Earth's initial Nest members, trained and placed just prior to the beginning of the planet's space exploration efforts. The Nest tries to find candidates with a mix integrity, independence, and courage. Masters is an almost perfect match for those qualities. And along with other members of Earth's Nest - The Harrier, Caracaras, The Long Talon, Kite, and others scattered across the globe - The Osprey has put a stop to numerous threats from space.

Members of The Nest are not just provided with special training but with special abilities as well. Hidden as one of Masters' teeth is a device which activates his costume, as well as increases his strength, makes him near invulnerable, allows for flight, and provides him with the ability to communicate with other members of his team and the larger Nest organization.

The Osprey has very easily shifted to meet the threats of shifting times and hasn't aged a day in 75 years. During his Hands of Justice days, pre-space travel, The Osprey spent all his time handling issues on Earth. As the planet entered the space era, he still participated in some issues internal to the planet, but external threats were the priority. The Osprey is one of the best, and most violent, fighters of all superheroes, and it's not uncommon for him to arrive at a team meeting still bloody from a previous battle. Some of his finest efforts have been retold in The Jungle Comes to Imerson City, Extra-Dimensional Racecars, and The Dinosaur that Fought a Skyscraper.

The Finch

Jessica Thurston was hiking in the mountains outside her city of Darnod when she fell down a cave. She discovered an amulet down there and found that is allowed her to shrink her size and move quickly, which allowed her to escape the cave-in that had her trapped. After she learned that the cave-in wasn't a mistake, but rather a trap by a political enemy of her father's who was going to use her for ransom, Jessica took on a costume based on a finch, to capture the crook. She decided to continue fighting crime and was eventually invited to the Hands of Justice. She also eventually married The Osprey and the two often fight crime together. Some of her best solo work can be found in Three to Screw In a Lightbulb, The Ostrich Flew the Coup, and Finch Finds Friends.
