Granddaddy Purple is one of the most famous cannabis strains out there, and that is for some very good reasons. It goes by a few different names, like Granddaddy Purple, GDP, or even Grand Daddy Purps. It is an indica dominate hybrid, with around 70-80% indica genetics, and is quite potent with an average THC content between 20-27%.
GDP is a cross of the strains Big Bud and Purple Urkle. It is used by a lot of medical marijuana cardholders for dealing with pain, depression and insomnia. When I am researching the different strains that I want to grow, I try and find ones that help with pain, mood and sleep, all of which this one works wonders on.
Inside my grow room, there is a pleasant sweet smell and that is just the beginning of the aroma that this plant will produce. Some have described the smell of this strain as a mixture of fresh berries and marshmallows. Now that sounds pretty awesome to me. I wonder how much stronger the smell will be with the Bembe nutrient that is supposed to enhance the sweetness and flavor of the buds.
One really cool thing with this one is that the buds usually have lots of dark purples in them that look really cool against the green leaves and the orange hairs. I think within the next week, we will see if I have any of those cool colorings with the plant I am growing. If you look closely on some of the macro shots of the buds that are forming, you can see some purple colors starting, so that is a good sign I will have some deep purples once the buds are fully formed.
The purple color matches perfectly with the grape flavor this strain is known to have as well. The taste of my cannabis is something that I am really starting to appreciate more and more. Whenever I smoked, I would never really taste much of anything and it was always just smoke. But ever since I started using the Volcano and vaporized my cannabis, I have really tried to pay attention to the different tastes that I experience. I have found that vaporizing is so much better because you get the full effects of the cannabinoids and you aren't burning off so much of the medicinal parts of the plant. It also takes a lot less to feel the effects.
I have around 4 to 5 weeks left before this plant is ready for harvest and I am getting more and more excited each morning I go in my grow room and see what this plant has done during its dark cycle. It has been really cool to see the different stages of this photoperiod plant and I really think it will help me with the autos I am still growing, but once I am done with the auto seeds I have, I think I am going to have a hard time growing anything except for photos.
I am just super excited to be able to try out one of the strains I have been looking for for years. GDP was one of the first strains that I found while researching the effects I would need from medical cannabis and it has taken me so long to actually find some seeds at a decent price and I had never been able to find any of the flower in the dispensaries I had been to. So what is your favorite strain you have found? Are you more of an indica or sativa user? Or do you prefer a nice balanced hybrid? Let me know in the comments.
