So much different from the originals
Shadow of the Tomb Raider came out at the end of 2018, but I never played it when it came out. I actually haven't played any of the Tomb Raider games since the original came out in 1996. I loved the original game and had no clue that there have been so many other sequels.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is made by Square Enix, who is known for the Final Fantasy series and countless other awesome titles. They are known for amazing graphics and great story telling.
The graphics in this one are incredible. There is an insane amount of detail in the world they have created. The series has come a long way from back in 96.
I remember playing the game when it first came out and thinking that it was really cool looking. Now I can barely even tell what anything is because it just looks so horrible. I think every teenager back then had a crush on Lara Croft and her triangle boobs.
So this game starts with Lara chasing after some artifact and trying to get it before the bad guys get it.
When she gets to the knife, there is a warning that if it is removed, then there will be floods and all sorts of other crap that will happen to the world. So instead of heeding the warnings, Lara decides that the dagger is safer with her than the bad guys that are also trying to find it. Not even 10 minutes after she takes it, she is ambushed by the bad guys and they steal it from her.
So the whole area that the temple was near gets hit by a massive tsunami and most likely kills thousands of people. All because Lara couldn't keep her grubby hands to herself.
As the city was going under water, it was pretty cool seeing all of the destruction that the tsunami caused.
Once I got to safety, I was able to see how much damage Lara had done to the area. So now, Lara sets off on an adventure to keep the bad guys from getting the next artifact that can cause even more damage.
Lara took off on a plane with her friend, but her luck sucks pretty bad, and they ended up crashing in the jungle.
Then she started getting chased down by a few jaguars. I didn't know how to make more arrows to shoot so I almost died cause I didn't have a knife or anything to fight these things.
This one ended up taking about 20 arrows to the face before it went down.
There is a ton of stuff to explore in this game and the underwater parts are actually pretty fun and nerve wracking at the same time. As you are swimming, you have no idea where the tunnels come out, so you have to find pockets of air to breath in as you continue deeper in the tunnels hoping that you don't drown.
So far the game is pretty awesome. It has a ton of different puzzles that you need to complete as you progress deeper into the different temples in search for the artifacts. One of the things I always find weird in games like this is that there is always fire that is burning in these temples that have supposedly been undisturbed for centuries. Who is lighting the fires and keeping them from going out?
Also, the puzzles are super intricate, so I wonder how much truth there is to these types of things. How were these primitive people able to create such crazy puzzles with switches and levers that are able to activate after centuries? If these temples were made nowadays, they wouldn't last more than a few years before parts of them wear out and need replaced.
Overall, I am really enjoying the game so far. There is a ton to do and the story is pretty cool. It is a nice break from Assassin's Creed, and I am looking forward to continuing the adventures.
