This artist became my go-to when I wanted to really express myself. I first heard him in 2020 and I loved the song I heard that I went back in time to listen to more.
Since then, I eagerly awaited his next album, following his IG and Twitter page. I never got tired of hearing him and that was because I could relate a lot to all he penned down in his songs. If you haven't guessed it yet, I am speaking of NF.
For this TTT post, I want to share my favorite three from his most recent album, HOPE. Anyone who is a follower of NF (Nate Feuerstein) and have listened dedicatedly to his music would not miss the growth. He is one of the few artists I know who constantly evolved and strived towards development that it was written all over his lyrics and style.
Battling with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), it must have been really dark for him. But in his songs, he makes us understand that he channeled all the hurt and the pain to music. I guess that is why the industry have still refused to accept him. His style is real and what they believe in is built on lies.
NF started off as gospel rapper but then, we all have our calling and perhaps God had more in mind for him. When NF shifted from purely gospel and channeled his pain, there was a blast! A threat was born. NF gradually evolved and he is still very much in the faith, however, his own gospel is to the generation in the dark.
When HOPE was released, there was controversy amidst fans because once again his style had changed. It was clear that he was moving past the NF we all knew and that didn't sit well with many. They liked him depressed and battling because it made them feel better.
Personally, NF's transformation gave me hope. Yeah. It gave me a reason to believe that I could also change. Even though his change was tied to the birth of Beckham, his son, I still perceived that he really wanted to move past the whole agony he was constantly going through.
When I saw the title, I expected something like a diss or just energetic stuff. But no, it was way better. Married with a kid and another on the way, NF wrote this beautiful ode to his wife, Bridget. Tears brimmed in my eyes at how he laid the whole thing down. I wonder how she felt when she listened. Once again, NF proved that he could deliver love songs but only to those who deserved it.
Now, this song just got me. I don't know if I was misinterpreting but the fact that this song could be about an old lover (probably High School) just made me get tingles all over my body. I mean, we all have that one person we loved but just had to let go because it couldn't work out right? And this also proved to me that just like me, NF had a past and he is not afraid to talk about it. I fell a little more in love with him after listening to this.
My all time favorite in this album! Listen, Happy by far is the best song I have listened to this year. Not only did NF pour emotions into it, but all those emotions, thoughts and impressions are what I face; what most youths face today. The truth here can't be denied. Listen to it if you dare.
If you ever listened to How Could You Leave Us, then you would understand the weight of this message. This was what he needed. To forgive. And the sad truth is, it is people we love that end up hurting us. In his case, it was his Mama.
