Yeah right!
First off, I don't have a favorite food but I do have bribery meals. Which means they make me happy!
I enjoy both local and intercontinental dishes but do you know my favorite thing? How home cooked meals are always so different even when they are made of foreign ingredients.
Food is my go-to when I'm sad (also happens when I'm depressed). I never reject except when she visits. Get this, even the most intense heartbreaks never kept me away from food. So what can? Oh right! The Red Dragon.
So, when I do find myself rolling in the cramp induced state, where I'm more nauseous than hungry, irritable and a total B sometimes, what is that meal that makes me retract my claws?
Home cooked Egusi soup served with pounded yam. I always preferred my Cousin's Egusi to any other. Oh right, pardon me. It's referred to as Melon Soup elsewhere.
And then we have pancakes! Say, do you ladies also get in that moment where you're literally dying from awful cramps but you crave a lot of sugar?
Yep. My dilemma. Even writing this to tell about my favorite food is odd because honestly, I don't have one. I eat anything good and filling.
But if I do get to move to a place where some of my country foods are non existent, I'd miss the okra and Ogbonno soup, orha, bitter leaf, jellof rice, wena... 😶
Look, I'd literally miss everything. So what is my comfort food? Literally anything my cousin and mother makes. Their pots suits my broken heart (or belly).
Mom started hiding her pot from me when I was ten. And I wonder where I got the extra pounds from...
Occasionally though, I find myself missing certain foods but only because I haven't had them in a while. Like ukwa, Okpa, Ofe nsala, banga and bole (roasted plantain served with palm oil sauce).
Oh Jesus!
What are y'all missing? What's that food you can't go without?
