I've been taking a bit of a creative break lately, but it doesn't mean I've taken a break from creativity. What I'm actually trying to say is that I'm taking a temporary break from writing, so that I can focus on my artwork instead.
Mrs. Denmarkguy and I both have our respective little art/creativity worlds and from time to time we like to take our work to local and regional arts and crafts fairs - and other events, festivals and conferences, and set up a vendor booth.
Whereas it would be nice to think that we could just have online businesses where we sold our artwork from home via our websites, fact of the matter is that art is one of those things that sells far better in person than it does through the online environment. In fact, it's almost impossible to sell art online with the same degree success as it is face-to-face.
In general, we do about six to eight art related events in the course of an average year and that actually accounts for more than 80% of our combined creative sales. Yes, you read that right... it's another way of saying that online sales through websites on the account for 20% (or less) of our annual sales. Interesting to consider that in this digital age where we think everybody shops for everything on Amazon!
Anyway, we have another show coming up this weekend which is actually our biggest outdoor event of the year.
In general, we prefer to do indoor events because then you're not at the mercy of the weather quite so much, but this one is generally worthwhile because it runs in conjunction with the biggest Annual Festival in our little seaside city, bringing something on the order of 60,000 to 80,000 visitors over a weekend.
So we've been rather frantic both in the process of creating, and in the process of designing our vendor booth space which is often quite a challenge as well because you're trying to basically create a miniature pop-up store that can be set up and look great in a couple of hours, look really great for two days, and then be packed back up and taken home also in a matter of an hour hopefully or even less.
Yes, it's a lot of work but it's also quite rewarding... plus, it also gives us a better feel for how our creativity is doing and what directions we need to take when we can actually interact with people face to face. That's something you don't really get online.
Anyway, all this prep work and creative stuff is part of the reason why I haven't had much time to write as of late.
In a way, though, it's not a bad idea to occasionally take a break from writing because your ideas tend to get stale when you're not doing anything else.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!
