I suppose it depends on where you live, to some degree.

Here, we have this issue of property values escalating at a ridiculous rate. When we moved in, we bought the house with cash and the assessed value was a little over $200K. It's 12 years later, and now the assessed value is $880K. I can guaran-damn-tee you our incomes haven't increased 440% in the last 12 years! In fact, our old tax returns say they have actually gone down, thanks to two years of Covid kicking many self-employed people in the ass... that's the part of the equation that just doesn't work.

"Yeah but look at how much your house is worth!"

Doesn't matter whether our house is worth $880 or $880K because it's our shelter, it's where we live!"
