We're a bit away from the city proper, so this neighborhood — which has actually been here about 50 years now — is still not tied into the city sewer system. Since there's still about a 2-3 mile wide band of open land between us and the city, it'll probably be a while before we go on the city sewers.

Thanks for the extra tip on trapping the fatty bits. Since they are light, they tend to simply float like little ice floes in the first chamber and I just pick them out every few months with an old pair of fireplace tongs.

I do run a plumber's "snake" through the main pipe every couple of years, for extra cleaning...
