I have found that commentrewarder@commentrewarder definitely does boost the engagement level on posts... and I'm quite content to share 5-10% of the post's rewards in service of getting more engagement.

It's just too bad that people used to engage more organically and now they only want to engage (or so it seems) if there's a reward being given.
