As an "old fart", one of the meta observations I'd like to kick in is that coffee shops over the past 50 years or so seem to have traded places with "going to a bar at the end of the day" in terms of social importance.

In turn, that's possibly a reflection of our increasing "go-go-go" and eternally working society... we're more focused on being plugged into wifi and caffeine right out of the chute than to the idea of "relaxing/winding down" at the end of the day. You might say that the image at one time portrayed by the popular sitcom "Cheers" has become "dated."

Coffee shops also seem to reflect our increased "need for speed" in the sense that they are more oriented to what we do before/during work *(meaning there is a definite "time limit") while bars encourage "lingering," a part of life we have less and less time for.

I also don't have a lot of time, so just some quick impressions...
