I'm not sure whether anything much has changed... I know the hive.blog site has been very slow and "bumpy" lately but I mostly use PeakD.

As for activity, I know there have been some changes in the voting patterns of a couple of large trails; they are following more people who are actively commenting and not just posting. But I doubt that's your issue...
