Feels to me like an entire societal/cultural trend, in which the value of "things" has been pretty much relegated out of existence. Half the time, people start businesses without even having a "thing" they want to bring to the world, their objective is just "to start a business."

Even consider our beloved blockchain/crypto space: It's far more likely that the next thing to moon is some token attached to two guys in a basement with a shitty white paper and only the flimsiest notion of anything beyond "when have a blockchain!" while projects with functional use cases (even Hive) languish in relative obscurity. Functionality is boring, so people sell fantasy unicorns instead!
