I am almost 60 years, born in Denmark, my step-father was an older man from England, and now I live in the USA. I remember even around 1975, talking with my step-father and hearing him say the words "I want the respect a man my age DEMANDS!" And I was a very cheeky 15-year old and said something like "That's nice, but respect is not something you get to DEMAND, it is something you EARN by your words and actions!"

It made his SO angry!

The reason I say these words is that it sounds very much like the same discussion you are looking at, but this happened already 45 years ago!

Perhaps all generations experience these difficulties with interaction... perhaps a little differently as our times pass.
