RE: Reflections on Phantom Memories...
Thanks, Jacob. Yes, every bit helps get from point A to point B. People often forget that old truism "Even the longest journey begins with a single step." I hope the curation "holds."

Yeah, it's very specific. But definitely not real, and not from a movie. No trauma involved. Yes, I have a lot of strange, vivid and interesting dreams. I "got in touch" with that side of my

RE: "You Just Won $10 Million!" Does Sudden Wealth Bring Arrogance to the Surface?
That seems like a pretty decent thing to do; from what I hear "library politics" can be pretty convoluted and not necessarily objective.

As the old saying goes "A lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math!" But yes, most actual lottery winners don't have much of a sense of numbers and odds. The same can perhaps not be applied

RE: Monday Musings: And Then it Suddenly Became August!
I hear you. A fair bit of our "investing" has been in organic heirloom seeds, and we save seeds as well as get fruits and veg from our garden. Having lived in Texas for 20+ years, black beans

RE: Reflection on Things Lost in a World of Instant Gratification
I think the main risk is that people forget that there is almost always a kind of "something" that has to happen between "I want that" and it arrives at our front door. Sometimes the

Welllll... maybe you do have the "luxury" of not having to be in a terrific hurry at all times! We live just outside most delivery area limits so most things are brought to us by "standard"

Sadly, it does seem that way, at least for most people. I get a lot of joy from growing a garden... you plant something in spring and have to way till late summer or fall to harvest it; there is a lot

RE: The Challenge of CHOOSING When You Have an Ocean of Options!
Yes, I can very much relate to the "dive in deep" sentiment... as a result of which I may be fairly "scattered," but I am also very good at most of the things I scatter myself into.

Medicine is definitely a fine field to be in, and a long course of study, so well done! And you are definitely doing something that requires a lot of focus. I don't know how the system works in Nigeria...

RE: Revisiting Old Memories: My Teenage Self Hiking in the Mountains to Keep my Sanity
Thanks for the kind words @owasco! Yes, I did end up going to college. As it turned out, my (biological) dad passed away a month after my 18th birthday, meaning that I was considered "of age"

Well, I certainly appreciate the "slow build" that goes with Hive... I've been at it for 5 1/2 years now, I hope to continue for as long as I can, or I remain interested. Building a small

Indeed! I think there would be no harm in being taught "planning for the future" in school, even though many might argue that the lessons might become obsolete, on account of how fast technological

Thanks Denise! I think if there was one thing my otherwise dysfunctional parents left me with, it was being trained in "delayed gratification" from a very young age. Good things are worth waiting

Happy August to you, Joan! Everything does seem to merge and flow together... and along with that, the sense of urgency and importance to get it all done slowly diminishes.
