This is like Syria after the revolution there initially started. The messaging is more about showing how brazen, ruthless and beyond reproach they are. The message is to the people of Russia: we are so powerful we can get away with and say anything, don't even bother to protest.

In truth it is a facade. While they are brazen and ruthless, they are still extremely vulnerable, and they are acting this way out of fear.
