Patenga Beach Chronicles: Waves, Wind, and Memories
A collection of travel photography capturing my trip to Patenga Sea Beach, Chittagong. These photos bring back fond memories of the unique landscape where the river meets the sea.
1. Reaching the Shore
This shot captures that first moment of arrival at Patenga. I’m bending down, letting my hand graze the surface of the water as a gentle wave recedes. It's that initial tactile connection with the place. In the background, there's a traditional palki (covered chair) that was once common on these beaches. A row of speedboats is lined up nearby, showing how visitors can explore further out from the shore. The soft, hazy daylight suggests an early afternoon arrival.
2. Deep Breath and a Smile
Here I am, pausing for a moment of quiet reflection, my arms wide open to embrace the breeze. This specific location overlooks where the Karnaphuli River flows into the Bay of Bengal. From this vantage point, you can look out onto the sea and the busy river mouth. Looking closely at the horizon, you can see large container ships and tankers anchored in the distance, a reminder that Chittagong is Bangladesh's largest seaport. The water here is sometimes a light brownish color due to the river's influence.
3. A View from the Deck
This final image focuses more on the surroundings that create the distinct character of Patenga. It’s taken from the edge of the water looking towards the line of speedboats and a section of a concrete or wooden walkway. The water and the overcast sky create a slightly muted, contemplative color palette. These types of boats offer rides to tourists, taking them out into the bay and offering closer views of the naval area or other points of interest along the coastline.
