It just became cloudy all of a sudden, kola was probably lucky to be outside at that point. After days of continuous rains and washed clothes unwashed, he finally got a day of sun or so he thought.
Kola just came back from church, had his breakfast and started watching movies on his mobile phone since there was no power at that time and was probably till night before they would get power or maybe in the afternoon if they were lucky. After a while his phone battery went dead and kola had to drop his phone as there wasn’t any way he could continue his movie on a dead phone.
Left to face one of the killers of men, dreaded foe “boredom”. He had to find a way to overcome it, but how? He began to roll on his bed, fantasizing about girls, money, fame, buying the finest things he could ever wish for, just to kill time. Amusingly at times he would try switching on his phone even though he knew that it wouldn’t work.
Eventually he got up from bed and left his room, going round the house before he finally went out into the compound, looking over the clothes he had spread which were getting dry when the atmosphere just started changing, he begun to hear sound like from a shower but he could not figure out where it was coming from, he looked left and right and strained his ears but still couldn’t figure it out. The sound started increasing and he knew the rains were coming, so with great speed he rushed to get all the clothes back inside, he couldn’t afford to get them wet again.
Closing all his windows and locking all doors, he could still feel the impact of the heavy rains which had now begun, trees bending so low they would break of soon, windows shaking and sounds of thunder soo frightening one would think the end was near. It rained for hours into the night like it would never stop.
Later that in the night, the rains stopped completely, he stepped out into the compound where not much damage had been caused except for the trees which eventually fell off and deciding to check outside the gate, he couldn’t really see but then he heard the sirens and the lights were back on, power had returned and he could see now, thank God the rains didn’t destroy anything else in the area.
It was indeed a heavy rain.
