In days of yore, when sense was common, if anyone were to mention blocking out the sun, it'd be on with the straitjacket and off to the asylum quick smart.
Alas the age of common sense is dead, lunacy reigns and nutters are provided not with a psychiatrist but with a huge pot of public money. But wait! Who's talking about dimming the sun? I thought that was all a conspiracy theory. No, not anymore. It's mainstream news now, so we can all believe it.
According to The Telegraph newspaper, experiments costing 50 million pounds aimed at dimming sunlight to combat global warming are expected to be approved by the British government within weeks, followed shortly by other countries.
Other countries? Well, if you must dim the sun, do it in Australia. Those guys are far too happy for their own good. But leave the Brits and the Irish be. We Irish get bugger all sun as it is. We have one of the lowest annual sunshine levels on the planet
And don’t we need the sun for that food-growing lark? Doesn’t it take sunlight and, eh, what was it again, oh yes, carbon dioxide for plants to thrive? Carbon Zero, anyone?
But with no carbon dioxide and less sunshine, won't we starve?
If I were a conspiracy theorist, I’d almost think they were trying to kill us.
