Perhaps you're trying to read too much into it, or perhaps I'm missing the subtleties. I thought it was an amusing story; the image of colonel Arlong as the man with no name, his indignation and fury at humanity leaking into the humanoid's circuitry, the cigar, Jennifer's lust for the colonel, the five minutes are up line. There's so much there. By the way, the note is not part of the story. Arlong is the last word.
