Today, I'll be taking you to see the Kilgore Falls which in located at the Falling Branch Area of Rocks State Park in Pylesville, Maryland. Pylesville is also part of Harford County, Maryland.
If you go on a weekend or holiday during the summer then you will be required to make a reservation as it gets pretty crowded and parking is limited. My husband and I went on an early weekday morning and the lot which can accommodate 28 cars had about a dozen cars on it.
Kilgore Falls is 17 feet high and is the second highest free-falling waterfall in Maryland.
I found most of the rocks and boulders very near and in the water. I did spot this one though along the trail and I'm sure there are more but were hidden from sight by plant growth.
Kilgore Falls is also where I took a tumble in the water...lol. Luckily, I didn't have my phone on me but I did fully submerge another camera. Surprisingly, it is still working and I didn't lose any photos that I had on it. I have an arrow in the second photo that shows the spot that I fell. Basically, I started to twist my ankle on some rocks under the water and that's about it. The water was cold yet refreshing. I've never had a problem being able to laugh at myself and possibly that comes from having eight siblings. Anyway, I was a little sore for a few days but otherwise okay.
You can go behind the waterfall if you would like. I've only been here three or four times and never have ventured back there.
There are a lot of rocks and boulders under the water and I did notice several people that were in the water had sneakers on. If you take this trail in then you will have to cross the water to get a really good view of the waterfall. The time before this trip the water was a bit higher and we didn't try to cross it at that time. I do think there may be another trail in on the other side but this is the only trail that I've gone in on.
I took these photos on visits from this past Spring and Summer. This next photo was taken when I went up to the top of the waterfall. Up there it is harder to tell what is a boulder and what is bedrock but I think these are boulders.
My last photo was taken from the top also and looks down from over the side. Those big rocks at the bottom don't look so big from up here! Next time I post about Kilgore Falls I'll be showing more of the trail leading in but for today, it's all about the boulders! 馃槈
