‘Joler Gaan’ is one of my favorite band groups. The songs of this group are a little different from the traditional band groups. The instruments used in their band are different and many of them were invented by themselves. The team leader Rahul was asked how he writes such beautiful songs for the band? His answer was as follows.
The implication of the above sentence is that if you want to write something, it has to come from within. Now the question is how quality writing will come from within? If it were to apply to everyone, then everyone would become a good quality writer. I believe that good quality writing can be written by those who practice it and gain knowledge on various subjects. So, here comes a supplementary question that if the national poet of Bangladesh Kazi Nazrul Islam had not done any formal education then how he wrote so well. The answer is very simple because Kazi Nazrul Islam might not had any formal education but the way he was educated in self-education that can be easily understood by reading his writings. In many of his writings, he referred some events that would never had been possible without reading about them. Institutional education will make the foundation and self education will help you strengthen that foundation. If formal education is a pond, then self education is the sea from which you can extract everything.
But the bottom line is that there is no substitute for reading books for good writing. Reading books is a kind of addiction. The way nicotine pulls a smoker, similarly books will make you addicted like nicotine when you fall in love with it.
I still remember in my student life when I used to walk around Nilkhet (book market) to buy books. In my student life I bought a lot of old story books for 10 Taka. Those were written by many renowned writers. I spent most of my pocket money in student life buying books and cigarettes. Cigarettes may have been smoked and flew in the sky but those old books are still on my bookshelf. So, Syed Mujtaba Ali rightly said.
রুটি মদ ফুরিয়ে যাবে, প্রিয়ার কালো চোখ ঘোলাটে হয়ে আসবে, কিন্তু বইখানা অনন্ত- যৌবনা- যদি তেমন বই হয়।
Reading the above writing, you may think that I have become a very skilled writer, but that is not the case. I am still learning every day. But I try to read more whenever I have time. And reading these books help me write different things.
I wrote this article mainly for those who are constantly confused about what to write and how to write. Many also suffer from a lack of confidence in whether their writing is up to standard. I'm telling them to read more books. Reading books will give you confidence to write because there is no alternative to reading books.
