Hope you are well and enjoying your time. After a long time I walked again on Wednesday. I did not go out of my house for the last few months because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now the office has opened considering the current economic situation and that is why I had to go out. Everyday I have to travel approximately 20 kilometres to reach to my office. I used to travel beside the Turag river. Today while travelling, I stopped my car and tried to observe the current flood situation of the country.
The flood situation across the country is getting worse day by day. Until recently, the flood situation was worse in the northern part of the country. But now the flood situation is moving towards the other areas including the central region. Dhaka is located in the central part of the country and the flood situation is slowly advancing towards this area. Several areas around Dhaka have already been inundated by flood waters.
The waters of various major rivers are still flowing over the danger line. Brahmaputra, Dharala, Padma, Meghna and there are some other rivers whose water level is rising. According to the forecast, the water level of these rivers may increase further. This is not good news at all for the people of the country.
The worst aspect of the floods is the lack of food and distilled water. People in flood prone areas are suffering from various diseases due to lack of pure drinking water. One of the reasons for this is that all the water taps in the flood affected areas have been submerged. So the people of these areas are bound to drink polluted water.
The country has not yet recovered from the coronavirus pandemic, on top of that the sudden flood which has come as a shock to the common people. They are looking to the rich for the relief. Although the government says there are enough relief supplies, the general public may not be getting the same. I hope the government will pay a little more attention to this so that these poor people can get rid of this worse situation.
Thanks.
Stay safe and healthy.
