World's first 100% solar train in Australia
Byron Bay, in NSW, Australia inaugurated the first solar-powered train earlier this year. The train can currently cover a distance of 3 km from the city centre to the North Beach. It uses custom-built solar panels on the roof and can carry 100 passengers.
The train is built off of an old vintage train and engineered with batteries that can be charged with local green energy sources. NSW has over 200 days of sun - and it can also charge in a special shed when the sun isn't out. As a last case scenario, it does also feature a diesel engine so you can be sure you 're not stranded in an unforeseen circumstance.
Sure, this is not something that can be adopted on a mass-scale at the moment and the technology needs a giant leap before we see solar powered trains and vehicles in every day life but this is a start. For this new town in NSW, it definitely serves the purpose to move people to the beach town.
