Hi everyone!
Today I will start with some basic stuff connected with space and orientation because Descriptive Geometry is pretty much about detecting where is exact object in space or where we should put it.
It is important to say that this just one way of defining spatial characteristic and that this kind of notation is choice made by author . You can use other notations too and you will get pretty much the same result. Different authors use different ways of graphical space description and none of them is either right or wrong.
In Descriptive Geometry we usually use Cartesian coordinate system made by French mathematician and philosopher René Descartes who published this idea in 1637. This is system of three axes (x - abscissa, y - ordinate, z - applicate) that are pair wised perpendicular and three planes that are perpendicular too. I will call these three planes Horizontal (H), Frontal (F) and Profile (P) plane. These three axial planes divide our space into eight equal octants.
This drawing shows you kind of notation I will use in future posts. The lines above H and P planes mean that we don't see them in true size and circle around F letter means that Frontal plane is the only one we see in true size. These signs will be used in all posts the same way. Place where all three axes meet is called origin (O) and the arrows show positive directions of the axes.
This one and few next chapters are the most important ones for understanding and following explanations of solved problems that I am going to give you.
Since all literature about Descriptive Geometry is usually very long and many find it boring I will write short posts about important stuff that should be part of every architect/designer/engineer education.
