Several days ago I noticed this contest from the Movies and TV Shows community about choosing our top 5 favorite comedies of all time and I had to participate. When I was younger comedy was the genre I enjoyed the most and the actors Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and Jim Carrey were my favorites of the genre.

In fact, the only time I laughed so much I cried while watching a comedy was with the movie Down to Earth where Chris Rock's character dies by accident and is brought back to life inside the body of a rich old man. I was a kid at the time and the following scene had me laughing for a good while. You can check the scene here.

More recently, the comedies I have enjoyed the most have been from Argentina, I was surprised and happy to see so many great movies from that country and as most people from South America will know, there is nothing funnier than seeing an Argentinian getting mad and yelling bad words like crazy.

So, the following list will include some of my favorite comedies from when I was little and some comedies that I have enjoyed in recent times:

Hace varios días me di cuenta de que había un concurso de la comunidad de películas y programas de televisión sobre la elección de nuestras 5 mejores comedias favoritas de todos los tiempos y tuve que participar. Cuando era más joven, la comedia era el género que más disfrutaba y los actores Adam Sandler, Chris Rock y Jim Carrey eran mis favoritos del género.

De hecho, la única vez que me reí tanto que lloré mientras veía una comedia fue con la película Down to Earth, donde el personaje de Chris Rock muere por accidente y vuelve a la vida dentro del cuerpo de un anciano rico. Más recientemente, las comedias que más he disfrutado han sido de Argentina, me sorprendió y me alegró ver tantas películas geniales de ese país y, como la mayoría de la gente de América del Sur sabrá, no hay nada más divertido que ver a un argentino enojarse y gritando malas palabras como loco.

Entonces, la siguiente lista incluirá algunas de mis comedias favoritas de cuando era pequeño y algunas comedias que he disfrutado en los últimos tiempos:

I believe Friends is the most popular comedy production of all time. I began to watch it when I came back from school and I always found one aunt of mine watching this series on the TV. I started to watch it with her and eventually, I grew a liking for the characters. I don't remember which season is the one I started to watch but in the end, it didn't matter because I ended up watching pretty much all the seasons several times.

The series was broadcasted several times during the day, at noon and at night. It was also probably broadcasted in the mornings but I am not sure. With time, I became used to watch it at night, and throughout several years I always eat my dinners while watching this series.

What's attractive about Friends is the chemistry between all the 6 main characters. They felt like real friends going through life together, although this can only be said from season 3 onwards because I remember that in the first 2 seasons and especially the first one, their performance wasn't as spontaneous but this is understandable.

All of them had a lot of good moments and my favorite ones were Chandler and Joey. Chandler because he was the most sarcastic and had a weird sense of humor and Joey because his character development turned him into the stupid one of the group and sometimes he was just hilarious. If you watch the first seasons of this series you will notice Joey wasn't dumb at the beginning. He became kind of dumb around season 3 I think and this made his character even better in my opinion.

Friends is a classic of the genre and with good reason, it even had some short-lived intense moments like that classic scene with Ross where he repeats "did she get off the plane" after hearing a phone message. I discovered this series after its final episode had already aired so that allowed me to watch it every day. Otherwise, watching 1 episode per week would have been very slow and not as enjoyable.

Creo que Friends es la producción de comedia más popular de todos los tiempos. Empecé a verla cuando volvia a la escuela y siempre encontraba a una tía mía viendo esta serie en la televisión. Empecé a verla con ella y, finalmente, me gustaron los personajes. No recuerdo qué temporada es la que comencé a ver, pero al final, no importó porque terminé viendo casi todas las temporadas varias veces.

La serie se emitió varias veces durante el día, al mediodía y por la noche. Probablemente también se emitiera por las mañanas, pero no estoy seguro. Con el tiempo, me acostumbré a verlo de noche, y durante varios años siempre cenaba viendo esta serie.

Lo atractivo de Friends es la química entre los 6 personajes principales. Se sentían como verdaderos amigos pasando por la vida juntos, aunque esto solo se puede decir a partir de la temporada 3 en adelante porque recuerdo que en las 2 primeras temporadas y especialmente en la primera, su actuación no fue tan espontánea pero esto es comprensible.

Todos ellos tuvieron muchos buenos momentos y mis favoritos fueron Chandler y Joey. Chandler porque era el más sarcástico y tenía un extraño sentido del humor y Joey porque el desarrollo de su personaje lo convertió en el estúpido del grupo y, a veces, era simplemente gracioso. Si miras las primeras temporadas de esta serie, notarás que Joey no era tonto al principio. Creo que se volvió un poco tonto alrededor de la temporada 3 y, en mi opinión, esto hizo que su personaje fuera aún mejor.

Friends es un clásico del género y con mucha razón, incluso tuvo algunos momentos intensos de corta duración como esa escena clásica con Ross donde repite "se habrá bajado del avión" después de escuchar un mensaje telefónico. Descubrí esta serie después de que su episodio final ya se había emitido, por lo que me permitió verla todos los días. De lo contrario, ver 1 episodio por semana habría sido muy lento y no tan agradable.

Shortly after I started to watch Friends at night, I discovered Two and a Half Men because the channel began to broadcast it immediately after Friends. In the beginning, I didn't find it as funny as Friends but with time I became a huge fan of it.

Something important about Two and a Half Men is that I think this series could be divided in 2, with Charlie Sheen and then with Ashton Kutcher. The Two and a Half Men I enjoyed was with Charlie Sheen. When they changed the cast and added Kutcher the show was never the same.

This series is about 2 brothers, the older, Charlie, is a wealthy piano player and has a hedonistic lifestyle. The younger one, Alan, has a failing marriage and a son. He isn't wealthy, far from it, and tends to suffer from economic problems. The 2 live together after the younger one had no place to stay and asked his brother if he could live with him, what began as a temporary solution became a permanent one.

Even though they are brothers, their personality is completely different. Alan is very meek and nervous while Charlie is selfish, and can be a bit cruel sometimes. He has a lot of disinterest in other people and only wants to hook up with girls with no compromises.

In the house, we also have the cleaning lady, who is very bossy and is always there throughout the series. Other secondary characters that constantly appear are their mother, Alan's wife, and Rose who is a girl obsessed with Charlie. This show has a lot of black comedy and isn't as innocent as Friends.

Poco después de comenzar a ver Friends de noche, descubrí Two and a Half Men porque el canal comenzó a transmitirlo inmediatamente después de Friends. Al principio, no lo encontré tan divertido como Friends, pero con el tiempo me volví un gran admirador.

Algo importante de Two and a Half Men es que creo que esta serie podría dividirse en 2, con Charlie Sheen y luego con Ashton Kutcher. La que yo disfruté fue con Charlie Sheen. Cuando cambiaron el elenco y agregaron a Kutcher, el espectáculo nunca fue el mismo.

Esta serie trata sobre 2 hermanos, el mayor, Charlie, es un pianista adinerado y tiene un estilo de vida hedonista. El más joven, Alan, tiene un matrimonio fracasado y un hijo. No es rico, ni mucho menos, y tiende a sufrir problemas económicos. Aunque son hermanos, su personalidad es completamente diferente. Alan es muy manso y nervioso, mientras que Charlie es egoísta y, a veces, puede ser un poco cruel. Tiene mucho desinterés por otras personas y solo quiere ligar con chicas sin compromisos.

En la casa también tenemos a la señora de la limpieza, que es muy mandona y siempre está ahí durante toda la serie. Otros personajes secundarios que aparecen constantemente son su madre, la esposa de Alan y Rose, que es una chica obsesionada con Charlie. Este programa tiene mucha comedia negra y no es tan inocente como Friends.

This film has a comedy all-star cast. Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and Kevin James are all great when they are the main actor in a comedy production, but put them together and you have a masterpiece with funny scenes every 5 minutes.

I watched this film for the first time while on travel and I didn't even know what to expect from it. I knew the cast was good and the first film was nice too but nowhere near a masterpiece. This one, Grown Ups 2 is still my favorite American comedy film even to this day 8 years after its release. The funny scenes in this film are just nonstop, and their comedy is effective, it makes you laugh and it is enjoyable. Every comedy lover should give this movie a watch.

Esta película tiene un reparto de estrellas de comedia. Adam Sandler, Chris Rock y Kevin James son geniales cuando son el actor principal en una producción de comedia, pero si los combinas tienes una obra maestra con escenas divertidas cada 5 minutos.

Vi esta película por primera vez mientras viajaba y ni siquiera sabía qué esperar de ella. Sabía que el elenco era bueno y que la primera película también era buena, pero no era una obra maestra. Esta, Grown Ups 2 sigue siendo mi película de comedia estadounidense favorita, incluso hasta el día de hoy, 8 años después de su lanzamiento. Las escenas divertidas de esta película son continuas y su comedia es efectiva, te hace reír y es agradable. Todo amante de la comedia debería mirar esta película.

Heroic Losers is my favorite Argentinian comedy. It has 2 of the best Argentinian actors I know of, Ricardo Darin and Luis Brandoni, they always participate in great films. The story is about a group of regular people who were planning to do an investment when suddenly their government imposes a measure that freezes dollar-denominated accounts and their investment gets trapped in limbo.

With no way to withdraw the money and no way to continue, it feels as if their money is lost. This type of policy is common in South America, Venezuela had an even worse case where the citizens weren't allowed to own foreign currencies while the local currency was collapsing thanks to inflation. This type of government can be very cruel and they always look for ways to impoverish the people, while allowing corrupt individuals with good contact inside the government to make tons of profits.

In the film, they discovered the corrupt bank manager knew what was coming when he requested the money to be deposited in an account, and they are sure they were scammed by these bureaucrats. They will start to make plans to get revenge and recover the money that belongs to them.

The film has a lot of comedy but there is also intense drama. What I have noticed in Argentinian comedies is that they always feel very spontaneous and authentic. If you have never seen a South American comedy I recommend starting with this one.

La odisea de los giles es mi comedia argentina favorita. Tiene 2 de los mejores actores argentinos que conozco, Ricardo Darin y Luis Brandoni, que siempre participan en grandes películas. La historia trata sobre un grupo de personas normales que planeaban hacer una inversión cuando, de repente, su gobierno impone una medida que congela las cuentas denominadas en dólares y su inversión queda atrapada en el limbo.

Sin forma de retirar el dinero y sin forma de continuar con su proyecto, se sienten como si su dinero se hubiera perdido. Este tipo de política es común en América del Sur, Venezuela tuvo un caso aún peor en el que a los ciudadanos no se les permitió poseer monedas extranjeras mientras la moneda local colapsaba debido a la inflación. Este tipo de gobierno puede ser muy cruel y siempre busca formas de empobrecer a la gente, al tiempo que permite que individuos corruptos con buenos contactos dentro del gobierno obtengan toneladas de ganancias.

En la película, descubrieron que el corrupto gerente del banco sabía lo que vendría cuando pidió que el dinero se depositara en una cuenta, y están seguros de que fueron estafados por estos burócratas. Comenzarán a hacer planes para vengarse y recuperar el dinero que les pertenece.

La película tiene mucha comedia pero también hay un drama intenso. Lo que he notado en las comedias argentinas es que siempre se sienten muy espontáneas y auténticas. Si nunca has visto una comedia sudamericana te recomiendo comenzar con esta.

My Masterpiece was the film that sparked my interest in Argentinian comedies. This is a black comedy film where Luis Brandoni plays a grumpy old painter. He had a lot of popularity in the past but right now no one is buying his paintings. His best friend, played by Guillermo Francella, who is also a great actor, works as an eloquent art dealer.

These 2 will have their ups and downs but ultimately they will create a crazy plan to improve the sales of the painter's work. This is one of the best black comedies I have seen in my life and if you like that type of comedy this one is a must-watch in my opinion.

Mi obra maestra fue la película que despertó mi interés por las comedias argentinas. Esta es una película de comedia negra donde Luis Brandoni interpreta a un viejo pintor gruñón. Tuvo mucha popularidad en el pasado, pero ahora nadie compra sus pinturas. Su mejor amigo, interpretado por Guillermo Francella, quien también es un gran actor, trabaja como elocuente marchante de arte.

Estos 2 tendrán sus altibajos pero al final crearán un plan loco para mejorar las ventas de la obra del pintor. Esta es una de las mejores comedias negras que he visto en mi vida y si te gusta ese tipo de comedia, esta es una de las que debes ver en mi opinión.
