I have to say one thing before I start talking about curation. It is a very nice system, but not without its flaws. I guess the same thing could be said for it both on Hive and LEO. However, it is not a system that is impossible to upgrade. One token blooming under Hive blockchain using the Hive-Engine did it.
LEO's Linear Curation
I believe it's been about a week since LEO switched to linear curation, in layman's terms, no matter when you upvote a post, comment or anything, you will get the same curation reward, depending on the value of your vote. We all know that on Hive, there are a lot of "front-running" and "curation sniping" bots which either maximizes the rewards or destroys any potential rewards for both the author and the curator. I must say this first, I am not against autovoting. Not everyone has the time to vote. So autovoting with a list, in my opinion, is perfectly acceptable. If you are sure that the person is posting posts that you'd upvote on a regular basis, add them to your autovote. That person has value in your eyes and you see that person's posts being worth your upvote.
Although it is yet to be seen with detailed stats over a certain period of time, I believe that LEO's switch to a linear curation may increase both manual and auto curation, but don't see that as a bad thing. Even to set up an auto vote, you need to go through someone's posts. That's a lot better than setting up a bot that streams blockchain and instantly voting new posts, sniping the curation. And obviously, manual votes are always encouraged so not having to worry about "oh this post has already been voted, I won't earn anything if I vote now and would only be wasting my VP." is a boon.
Would this work on Hive?
Maybe. Maybe not. I'd like to see some discussions about this going forward, and for sure, see some detailed stats regarding how it changed LEO's curation in the next few months.
I would really like to hear everyone's opinion who is reading this post, both for HIVE and LEO.
Thank you for reading through the post.
